Greetings, fellow humans! This month, I have mostly been painting some more Kruleboyz. As is tradition with it being a new year, I thought it would also be a good idea to see how I fared against my pledges from last year’s hobby roundup.
My goal for last year was to finish off my currently assembled Ironjawz models (which I did); finish off my Bad Moons (which I did in terms of Boyz but not Nobz); clear my backlog of 40k Ork Troops (which I did in terms of Grots but not Boyz); paint up a retro Kill Team (which I didn’t manage); and also make a start on a new terrain project (which I kinda did, by painting over a dozen Orky pieces). I also painted a few new things that were released during the course of the year (Kruleboyz, Beast Snaggas and Kill Team Octarius terrain).
I didn’t quite manage my usual target of painting at least a hundred models in total last year, only managing about eighty. That number does include several terrain pieces however, so in terms of surface area I’m sure that I can count those as (at least) two models each to bring me pretty close to the magic number. Overall, I don’t think that I’ve done too badly; especially considering that I also moved house, had a baby (well, my partner did) and spent the better part of a month in isolation.
This year, my goal is to finish off my Bad Moons (24 models), Kruleboyz (26 models) and Beast Snaggas (23 models); finish off my Kill Team Octarius terrain (4 buildings plus 4 platforms/walkways) and paint up my retro Kill Team (now as Goffs instead of Snakebites). As a stretch goal, I’d also like to build/paint some more terrain (for both 40k and AoS) and maybe build/paint the last few Moonclan and Ironjawz models on my shelf (about 20 models).
Also, due to circumstances beyond our control it’s been nearly two years since we last got together in person. Here’s hoping that the Aaronorium manages to reconvene at some point in 2022 and roll some dice.
If you’re joining in with White Dwarf’s 2021 Hobby Bingo (#WhiteDwarf, #PaintingWarhammer, #WarhammerCommunity), here’s how I’ve fared this month:
1 Hero or Character (Killaboss)
Overall, I completed 18 out of a possible 25 boxes on my 2021 Hobby Bingo card (72%). Because I didn’t really paint many heroes or vehicles however, I only finished off one actual line so only scored a measly 230 points out of a possible 1,250 (18.4%).
I must admit, as a somewhat regular painter I felt like having set boxes to tick off pressured me into painting some things that I didn’t necessarily feel like painting at the time. I can see how it could be helpful for motivating others though, so best of luck to anybody giving it a go this year.
Personally, I’ll just stick with painting whatever takes my mood in 2022 – most likely something green!
